Ben Hermans has a bachelor degree in Biomedical Science but gave his cycling career priority when he had the opportunity to become a pro rider. Hermans is an excellent racer against the clock (silver medalist in 2012 and 2011 Belgium Championships and Junior Time Trial Champion in 2004). In the 2012 Giro d'Italia he showed his climbing skills on the Passo dello Stelvio.
In 2011, he won the third event in the Challenge Mallorca and finished eighth in the Amstel Gold Race. He was also within a hair’s breadth of the white jersey in the Critérium du Dauphiné and finished third overall in theTour de Wallonie. In 2010, Hermans won the queen stage of the Tour of Belgium and obtained top-10 placings in the Critérium International, the Tour of Belgium and the Tour of Austria. In 2008, he wore the yellow leader’s jersey for two days in the Tour de l’Avenir.
Ben Hermans is professional in every way and has the right attitude about his career: only cycling counts in his life. His strengths and abilities will suit the team goals in the Ardennes Classics but there is still room for improvement. Hermans will be a name to remember for the Grand Tours as well.
