Few riders in the modern era have such an impressive list of victories as Fabian Cancellara. He is the unquestionable RADIOSHACK LEOPARD TREK captain in the Spring Classics. His perfectionism and professionalism spark a propensity to win throughout the entire team.
Cancellara holds a record of four World Time Trial Championships titles. He is a master of the cobbles having won Paris-Roubaix and E3 Harelbeke twice and the Tour of Flanders once. Adding to his list of classic victories, he won the 2008 Milan-Sanremo with an astounding show of strength. Il Lombardia and Liège-Bastogne-Liège are the only Monuments of Cycling that are missing on his palmares.
The Swiss time trial champion suffered a number of serious crashes in 2012, which cost him both the chance to compete in the Spring Classics, and defend his Olympic time trial title, but thanks to his fifth prologue victory in the Tour de France, he redeemed himself and wore the leader’s jersey for a week. With 28 days in all, Cancellara has spent more time in the yellow jersey than anybody who has not actually won the race.
His talents indeed do not end with time trialing and the classics, since he has also won prestigious week-long stage races such as the Tirreno–Adriatico and the Tour of Switzerland.
