Giacomo Nizzolo might just become the next great Italian sprinter. With the husky build of a sprinter and the ability to put out amazing watts near the end of a race, Nizzolo gives all the indications that he will develop into a real threat in the sprints.
His first professional win at the 2011 Bayern Rundfahrt pointed already to great things ahead. With four wins 2012 was just a pleasant confirmation. Nizzolo took his first ever victory in the UCI WorldTour, as he held on to take the fifth stage of the Eneco Tour bringing home the points jersey as well. Two weeks earlier he crowned himself as Overall winner of the Tour de Wallonie.
Nizzolo, surprisingly mature for his age, started out with finding success on the track. His power could not be mistaken and he quickly turned his attention to the road. In 2009, when he was only 20 he won already 11 races and a year later he continued his impressive winning streak with 12 victories. And a fifth place at the 2010 European U23 Road Race Championships confirmed that this young man is one to watch.
The young Italian was been brought to RADIOSHACK LEOPARD TREK with the intention of helping to develop his talent organically. No one will be pushing Nizzolo to be winning races from the start; no one will be overly surprised either if he starts chalking up his first victories pretty quickly.
