Tiago Machado signed for Team RadioShack at the beginning of the 2010 season after impressing on the Portuguese circuit. He was Portuguese Time Trial Champion in 2009 (elite) and in 2006 (U23) as well as Portugal Road Champion in 2007 (U23).
He charmed his new team during the 2009 Tour of Algarve and made nothing but progress in the following years. He has delivered a string of solid results in stage races since, finishing in his first year as a pro seven out-of-ten times in the overall top ten of a stage race.
Tiago Machado is a good climber and time trialist who only lacks the broader experience of a pro rider but who has everything within him to be a contender in the hard stage races. In 2011 he rode his first Grand Tours, finishing 20th overall in the Giro d’Italia and 32nd in the Vuelta a España. Under the guidance of team director José Azevedo, Machado will continue to move forward in his career in 2013.
